2009 HATE 2010 (prelude)

Why everyone wanna send me happy new years dumb early? Its not new years for me yet ya'll! I still appreciate the love though. Hope everybody gets what they are looking for and sets some mean goals to achieve. I'm trying to eliminate hate of any and all kinds in 2010.

Simple right? I'm going to get MORE into this IN 2010 lol but for now that's the goal. Paying attention to those clues? hmmmmmmm...

Let me say welcome back Charles Hamilton! I'm going to retract statements made in my blog entitled '*sighs*' real quick. The new music is fire my dude! The 'Normalcy EP' you dropped? BANANAS B (no homo lmao)

Let me take this time out to big up ALL my fav. hip hop artists (Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Charles Hamilton, Lupe, Kanye, Slaughterhouse, Blu, 50 Cent, Mos Def, Slum Village, & Elzhi)... They all came with some type of project or just flat out had good music for me to listen to.

^
^
^
A lot of these dudes had a lot to prove too (to my ears lol) and they did (thankfully) so big ups n*ggas!

Now I have to deal with the one who likes Charles Hamilton not (HATES him more like it.. Kobe too smh) and try to be as happy as can be. Alex where the hell you at? stop playing before I go craaaaazy (lol she's never seen crazy *rolls eyes*) All love baby!

*what I REALLY want and how I REALLY feel*

^

... 'If I had it I'd give it only to regenerate it in a minute'... true story (Michelle)
Everybody (if you don't know who you are by now goodluck) I love ya'll!! gone (n peace)!

Random Observation

So I'm in my house looking for a specific dress shirt and I came

across some old trophies of mine. There were 2 that stood out to me

because they were clear. See-through men perched on top of the trophy

(pause pause... 1 football dude and a basketball guy).

These trophies don't really stand out that much. Aside from them being

clear they are probably some of the lamest ones I still have in the

house.

The point? Well I'm looking and I'm like how many times am I gonna see

these short ass shorts and when am I gonna see someone with a fade, or

some braids, dreads, sh*t I'd take spiked hair too.

^
^
^
smh...

How long is it going to be before trophy manufacturers put an end to

such a blatant disregard to racial equality? I've never bought a

trophy in my life, so its not like my boycotting would have a major

impact but I'm about ready to get rid of all of these...

Or knock the body's off the mantle. At least that way when my kids

start talking sh*t I'll still have my proof, and when they ask what

the trophies actually looked like I'll go grab one of theirs and say

'not much has changed'... Or something along those lines.

Ok I'm done with this, but do you all agree? Or am I just over (as

usual) thinking? Gone!

*SIGHS*

It's tough when you just NOT getting that good feeling good music (or even music you like) gives you. That's what I'm going through with a lot of my favorite artists, and this song is a good example.

Doesn't really SOUND like a CH track (except for the see & say toy sounds he sampled or are those from that Bop-it thing?)and what he's saying doesn't really impress me (off 1 listen), but hopefully it'll grow on me.

Until then, I'll continue to support my dude hoping he decides to pick up the pace in this rap race. Normalcy out soon I'm goin to evaluate that mixtape like I did Lupe's ya dig? Gone!

Wasalu I Salute!

I wasn't playing when I said Lupe was straight bodying this rap sh*t. Here's some proof. Off his latest mixtape 'Enemy of the State: A Love Story' and in order if you don't have this, log on and d/l it now! BTW this post is gonna be long...

[Lupe Fiasco]
Check!
One, Two…
Ahh.. Naw!

[Verse #1: Lupe Fiasco]
Your attention please, your attention I need it
So I can sit you in a position from which I see it
Where I’m seated is scenic
Heavy-weighter, slim as the Machinist, so bulimic
Which means you somewhere in between it
I take it back for you like the Wild Stallions (Wyld Stallyns) of San Dimas
I’m in the market for low-mile 360 Modena's
And a good organic cleaners
My car always a winner
Your car’s always pitted
We should call it Stanley Steamers
Most of my friends in gangs
My new nickname is Ghengis Khan
But without the ‘Ye, but his last name’s my side
I ride with the demeanors (the meanest)
I’m armed to the teeth
You’re Venus and you’ve never been to the Dinas (dentist)
School of Hard Knocks, I dean it
I done it, as well as a celebrated alumnus
I donate to the campus and my name’s on the arenas
But you can’t bring it to my court
Not even with subpoenas
Cause you can’t play my sport
But you can still cheer-lead us
And you can’t sit there
That section’s for the seniors
And the sexy senoritas
So just move up to the bleachers
How you gonna school me when I grew up with your teachers
I know that you can't hear me
Cause I blew up all the speakers
And the power line is hanging
Cause I threw up all the sneakers
I ate up the imposters
And I chewed through all the pizzas
I blacked out with a black card
And I maxed out all the Visas

[Verse #2: Lupe Fiasco]
Uhh…Accreditation so prestigious
Just walk across my stage
Your life will be completed
Don’t need financial aid
Cause this is just some free shit
You been properly prepared
Throw your hats up in the air
I’m red hot, Chilly, (Red Hot Chili) I’m Anthony Kiedis
My spirit smells teenage
And Chi-town’s feelin' excellent
We hit them with the President
See we set the precedent
I don’t feel I’m best
I just feel I’m better than…

[Chorus: Thom Yorke/Radiohead]
Everyone… Everyone Around… Here
Everyone is so… near
So alone… So alone

[Verse #3: Lupe Fiasco]
See I don’t disagree
This is just a grievance
This ain’t dissin’
This is civil disobedience
How you gon’ make hip-hop
Without all the ingredients?
Lot of mouths to feed
Plus a lot of greediness
And that greed, outshines the neediness
What ni***s need is some "question they authority"
And tune out all the TV shit
And we be this
So I give ‘em more
You see I did it for…

[Chorus: Thom Yorke/Radiohead]
Everyone… Everyone is so… near
Everyone has got… the fear
So alone… So alone

[Verse #4: Lupe Fiasco]
Yeah… I am back up on the airwaves
Feelin’ like a Soldier, and I ain’t talking where the Bears play
Flair, look how I Fred Astaire (further stair) down the staircases
‘Finna be a hair-raisin’ tortoise versus hare race
So you should hang around here (hair) like some earrings
I know attention’s all about how you pair things
So when I want them to hear me out
I just sit them next to some pictures of Rosa splitting with her titties out
And what’s written on her titties is what it's really about
Then her vagina is some poor kids from China
Nipples nuclear missiles
Ass is a daughter without a dad
Back is like Afghanistan, Iraq
Health care hair
Drive by thighs
Education lips
HIV eyes
Environment feet
Justice get her so wet, brains get you brains
You can fuck her if you protest
But before you bust in her face, finish listenin’ to the tape...
Enemy of the State...

[Lupe Fiasco]
Microphone check, I make em all bounce
Every teller in Bank of America, make em all count
You gone need the whole staff to add up the amount...
It's gonna take to pay me off to keep me out your house
To keep me in my zone so that I don't zone out
I'm Rich and Po' like Zone 4, thoughts is deep like Tone Loc
Walk with me like old folk, cross your street a score's goal'ed
I don't rap, I hockey rink... cause my flow is so cold

I am on my "mmhmm," they are on they "Oh, No!"
I am really in here (hair), they ain't real like Soul Glo
Don't you know I'm so sho, them n****'s got no Glow
Find a master 'fore you can come back into the dojo

Lupe got his mind right, n**** this is my mic
And I've come to take it all back like Miller High Life
He must not be tied tight...back against the wall...
He will throw a ball, like he playin' Jai Alai

I'll do the register, you just get them fries right
I don't trust America, after watchin' Zeitgeist
Take a look at my stripes, chest looks like a tiger arm
and I'm hot as tiger balm, fire like a five-alarm
And it's set to Tire Barn, Get ya fire-fighter on....

I ain't worried 'bout you hoes (hose), I don't even need to roll
I turn down your ex like how you put your tires on
Once I get these tires on, I buy a bomb and tie it on
And ride this around the entire song, find a line to drive it on
Park it near a metaphor, wait for it, the timer's on
You can turn your hydrants on, I'll just turn my wipers on
Wipe it off then wipe me down but don't forget about my bomb!

[Lupe Fiasco]
I call this one Yoga...Flame

Uh, meditate
On the floor, fold your legs, resonate
Breathing speed, regulate
Clear my mind till it levitate

Dhalsim, I beat the game,

Level 8, Hella good

Never great cause God is great
So ain’t no goats, ain’t no gates

Fences see the rams ram, lambs let, sheep’s skate

Brace yourself, teeth straight
Fix your face for Pete’s sake
Birthday wordplay, piece of cake
4 door flow with seats for eight
Ororo Munroe make it rain
Not with bills, I make it change

Take that cool shit, make it lame

Take that nerd shit, make it bang

Yeah, you heard us make it bang
Yeah, you heard me make it bang

Melt the change and make a ring

Take that ring and make a bracelet
Take that bracelet make a chain

Look how far my necklace hang
Connect that chain up to a crane

Pull the game up by the brains
Could not move it just with brains
So I had to use some bling

Shouts to Drizzy, shout to Wayne
Yeezy, Jeezy, Ricky, Fifty, Raekwon, Loso, Gucci Mane

I’m not going to drop my name
Sneak that message to the masses, you can call me Chocolate Rain
You might think my wallet drained

Look how far my pockets hang

That’s cause I got pocket change
My net worth is basketball
They net worth is soccer games

Tell them ni***s stop it mane
But they cannot stop it mane

So, they forced to watch it drain
They be looking so blue like water when I wash my jeans

King without the whoppers and, King without the pauper
and King and I ain’t got no drains

Bruce Lee, dishwasher
Cleaning out your pots and pans
These ni***s ain’t got no stain
Power once I hit them with the powder
Then throw em’ in the shower
These ni**a slower than some dial-up
I be on my broadband
These ni***s still downloadin’
Lu finished, you still up on YouSendIt, uShare, zShare
How long you going to be there?
Damn…
FinallyFast.com for you fam
Information super highway
These n****s ain’t got no lane
But you can ride my shoulder
Like they pulled you over
I sit in the driver’s seat
You sit on the sofa
I am Patrick Swayze
You are Whoopi Goldberg

Cause he was a beast and the way that he controlled her
Rest in peace to Patrick
Rest in Peace to Stacks, kid
Rest in Peace to Rap, no, rest in peace to wackness

Yeah, n***a, I whacked it
Baby boy with the glasses
Tears like a black rap Zach Galifianakis
Hangover, game over, n***a that’s it!

*If you care about what Diddy is singing about I apologize but this is a Lupe post obviously... skip to the 2:45 mark after Lupe's 1st verse to get to his 2nd verse.*

[Verse #1: Lupe Fiasco]
I see, diamond flooded demons, Lamborghini angels
Halos down with the doors flapping when they came through
Windows up, system bumping, you the one they sang to
Same two, who said they the ones you should send your thanks through
Pockets full of blessings, they can sanctify and saint you
You can hear 'em revving up in heaven now, can't you?
Sandals made of chrome, his soul made of leather
An engine full of sinning and, candy painted feathers
The sound of the motor only reverend you confess to
I see this all in the eyes of the girl I'm next to
I asked her “Where we going?” and she just told me "Pleasure"
Hands on the wheel, and her heels on the accelor-
-Rator, told her wait up, she kept going like et cetera
But like a broken record, we’ve come too far to just wheel it back, selector
So we gon’ ride forever, forever, forever, forever, forever

[Verse #2: Lupe Fiasco]
Uh, said she was a fan of mine
Knew she was New Jersey, but said that she was Anaheim
Butterflies turn to suicides, now it's phantoms flying
Used to whisper in my ear, but now she tryna 'vander mine
That holy feeling (Holyfield) all gone, slowly feeling all wrong
None of this is satisfyin', pull it over, let me out
I'll just hitchhike back to mine
Nothing's really as it seems, yeah I shoulda known that
Thought I called a angel, devils had my phones tapped

[Lupe Fiasco]
Uh, yeah, this one's for Chilly Chill, Food and Liquor flow,
Strong like it's been distilled by,
Hillbillies in the hills and we move down to Beverly,
So heavenly, waking n****s up like revelry,
We won't be going back to you regularly, so forget it
Shadow flow, call up Punxsutawney Phillips,
My mind's on dope, my brain's on skillets,
Thoroughly trained to just bang off lyrics,
Bang bang bang like Pops Wayans,
Witherspoon (with a spoon) or with a fork,
Was coming out my egg like Mork, deserves his own head on Rushmore

Flood the game like a giant in a dwarf's shorts,
So long n****s, career so short it should be ridin' on a horse,
Mines is a horse, but mines is the size you could sneak inside a fort (Ford),
Yours is a pony, it could sleep inside a Porsche,
I am on point like the eating side of forks,
So keep your head down like your reflection in a spoon,
Chilly Chill will be outta corrections real soon...
Enemy...god willingly...

Had to change the pic up cause this is THAT HEAT! AKA who's f*ckin with that?

Uh, we just gonna keep it goin' and goin',
until I feel completed and happy about it...You know?

Uh, Opus of a ghetto boy who grew into a project man
Brewster Place (booster plates), he used to stick his scissors in his sockets damn,
clear that Project Runway, 'cause this is where my rocket lands,
ain’t got no problems, Houston, I A.K.A. then rocket land.
Events recent that lit a fire under him like pots and pans,
rockets and I (eye) up in the sky like helicopter cams...

And you down there in the traffic jam
from here I’ve seen a bunch of fake shit like avid wrestlin' fans...
Came up from the bottom of the eye exam ZOOM
Now I’m like the biggest G off (Geoff) in the room,
still hard to see me like the truth on TV
or the roof from the sidewalk, I don’t flo' (floor), I ceiling

My mama said they need me...
'cause, I’m made from the best stuff on earth like Snapple Tea Leaves,
they glass is half full so I spit into them like Celie,
no longer G, now you can see me
but your letter's (lettuce) still under my sea (C) like seaweed
C and G but nothing bout me C-G, It’s all real, none of this is green screen...

"Shut Up and Let Me Go" just like The Ting Tings,
I’m feelin' like a Mac, standing around a bunch of PCs.
I’ve rocked it from the shouters to the soccer moms,
try to stop what’s going on...
you’ll see the back of my hand like the tops of palms,
I’m balling like the tops of pawns,
circle of influence getting bigger like the ripples on the tops of ponds.

Short-footed and War Headed like the tops of bombs,
Domino-in n****'s, delivery is Papa John's, Little Ceaser‘s, uh,
burning down your Pizza Hut...
Plaque collection building 'cause, I don’t brush my teeth enough,
yeah, Crack is wack and reefer sucks, you might think this deep as fuck
but this like my weaker stuff,
they ask “Is this his day-to-day 'cause this is like a week to us?”

Mic is shy and speakers blush, I is shy (Chi) and he is up,
I correct, me is up - no we is up - cause its like two of me
and each of us, rappin' acid, eat this up,
A-Town down, peace is up, New York to East Coast is tough,
West Side ridin', lot of n****'s salty 'cause,
'cause I be overseas and (overseasoned) tough.

Everything seamless, WorldStar never seen this,
NahRight gotta stream this, motherfuckin' genius!

Brave and fly, you backbone-less and wingless,
bunch of chickens on the strip, I’m coming for they fingers...
till what they throwin' up is meaningless...
Chilly Chill you seeing this? This didn’t make MTV’s list...

Finish fingers, eating wrist, feedin' frenzy and shit,
Succotash stuffering, Chicken-Frikasee'en this...
a beat eatin' media blitz,
pace is getting feverish, pain is growing Seaver-ish,
these the peppers Peter picked,
things are at their easiest, Real Compton city G’in it
but I’m from Chicago...house lights, bravooos!

*Applause*.... Yeah, I’m just playin'....Internet, check!

[Lupe Fiasco]
Aww, you don't get it

[Lupe Fiasco]
I'm just a wolf inside a lion's suit,
A shark shirt, a panther's pants, piranha hat and tiger shoes,
I got a lion's den inside the booth
That right there is point blank
This here, is from where the sniper shoot
Might take a long time to get it, by the time I hit it
I done ran Bubble Tape around them Chiclets, POOF!!
I ain't the bomb, I'm the company that got the contract to rebuild during the aftermath,
Have a blast!
Goin' green, only using half the gas, the calming comes through after disasters' have
But this calm has the same fury that disasters have
I should have a class, I'm the son/sun of the South Pole plus Alaska's dad
Got n****s like "DAG!!", flow is like crazy gone mad
And villains gone bad, Punk ass n****s, don't be so Daft
Baby, why you hangin' with them busters like Babs?
They are such a drag, you should move 'em to the trash
Feel like I'm walkin 'round upon Cassius calves
Quite a beautiful script, and such a gift of gab
A big bass, shout out to Mistah F.A.B
Young Frankenstein reportin' live from the lab
I bought the bars out, put it on my tab
If you came here to box, you'll leave in a bag
I run the game, Bilderberg Group, in the lead with the flash
Usain Bolt ain't even leavin' this fast
Why you take offense with your defensive ass?
Never Hussein'in the hole/whole, not even in the half
Cause n**** I aint hidin', I'm the whole world, n**** you're an island
And the sea's risin', if I keep shinin'
You gon' have to take submarines to the drive-in nowwww

HEY!!
ENEMY OF THE STATE!!

[Lupe Fiasco]
Ohh! Shout out to Slaughterhouse..
Joe Budden, Royce, Crooked, Joell..
Uh! yeah!

[Verse #1: Lupe Fiasco]
The game was looking weak, the whole scene starved
So I came through with some muscle milk and protein bars
Barbells and jump ropes, Bowflexes to body it
And a couple Billy Blanks Tae-Bo Karate kicks
If you aint Million Dollar Dreamin', then we op-pee-sites
In high school, I was voted the most Ted DiBiase'st
Also the most slept on, cause my Ted DiBiaseness
An Inglorious Bastard, and you looking like a Nazi biiiitch

They say it's hard out here for ol' boy, then tell me where Taraji is
I am going so raw, watch me Soy Sauce, Wasabi this
Noble on them Pro-Tools, hot as H-E- double hockey sticks
Make sure you give the chef your compliments
And thank him for his constantly great tasting accomplishments
A smiley face, emoticons if you wanna remain anonymous
My retirement's on hold, I got the whole world on conference
Matchstick Man,
I really have the confidence that I'ma give them G.O.O.D Music
like Common Sense and Consequence
Content that's relative across the continent
New York, Houston, Chi-Town, Los Angeles
Enemy!!

[Lupe Fiasco]
Aw! Shout out to Push, Shout out to Malice,
Fam-Lay!! Ab Liva, Re-Up, N****a We Up!! .. G's up
Windin' down but..

It's Hirst verses and Murakami rhyming,
All my raps is super flat, all your raps is super wack,
Tell him that the future's back, DeLorean rolling down the block
You can call it shooting craps, and my roof is back
And my wings is up

Kingda Ka without kalua, so you ain't gotta pour the king a cup
Young Yakuza but, none of my fingers cut
So I can still sip red zinga with my pinkies up
Made man, you can call this cleaning up
I'm OCD, I never think it's clean enough
That's what defines me, I never think it's mean enough
Lines deeper than those waiting on a sneaker, cuz
You gone need two heads like the King of Clubs just to figure out the meaning of,
I'm just achieving buzz so stay out of son/sun way like you're drinkin' blood
This is what it feels like to be in love...ENEMY!

I mean come on, I mean look at what I'm droppin' here
Do this for the block and the blogosphere
No, you ain't ready for the heavy, so I'll keep it light as joggin' gear
I don't want the throne, I want the helicopter rocking chair
Jay gave me a co-sign like I was RocaWear, but be clear I'm not the air (heir)
I'm the water, fire and the earth;
That means I'm doin' dirt, spittin' flames and quenchin' thirst,
And plus the real God has been on my side since birth
I hope that he forgives me, I hope I do his work in every single verse,
Now I might do a dance, I might even jerk, tell them n****s don't hate
Only God is great, Enemy Of The State

SINGLE FOR TONIGHT!!!

I'm lying I'm lying I'm single EVERY NIGHT if anyone even cares! (apparently no one does trust me I've asked). Nah I just got a thing for that song at the moment (shout out to Weezy) and that's really what this blog is about. I don't know what's happening to me, but I think I actually am starting to like wack sh*t.

Either that or Lil Wayne's singing is actuuuuaaallyy....? good? I gotta be overthinking this. Either way everything sounds so lame to me lately, yeah even Chuck (aside from 2 tracks I heard off the new tape them sh*ts was fire!).

Let's see. 50's new album was actually really good... Until I realized he was talkin about the same thing he's been yapping about on his 1st 3 albums. Truth be told though, 50 stepped his rap game up big time. Congrats, sort of, cause I guess I'm kind of dissing his boring music too huh?

Hola Hovitooo! No. That album banged for the 1st 3 weeks now I hardly even listen to it. Blueprint 3 is a solid effort I can't even hate on dude. It's just not holding my attention really, and I blame that on the subject matter. Nobody loves Jay more than Jay and he definitely let's you know throughout the entire f*cking album lol.

Nah I'm tripping really I know exactly why I'm not feeling shit any rapper dude gotta say right now (2 reasons really). Eminem & Lupe Fiasco straight up & down.

Ever since Em dropped Relapse I been singing all kinds of praise for the man. He quitliterally on a different level when it co to rhyming them words. That guest spot on 'Forever' yeaa killed Drake, Kanye, AND Wayne scary thing is it wasn't even close. His BET cypher? Same story. Dude is a monster but falls under the same category as Hov and 50 cause his subject matter sucks but when you can be as skillful as he is it doesn't matter what your talking about.

ANNNNNND if you don't believe me check out Lil Wayne's new track (off his still unreleased Rebirth album)featuring Em and tell me who YOU think came out on top.

Lupe Fiasco. I can honestly say this n*gga making me fall in love with hip hop all over again. Cop his tape Enemy of the State: A love story and try to catch what he's saying. Dude is just on another planet with his concepts and rhymes.

*TANGENT*

Anyway those 2 got me feeling like 'why listen to anything else?' (that's not the case I'm listening to a lot) but then again like I said everything else is sounding kind of good now. Lol I need to slap some soulja boy,If I like that sh*t I'll know there's really something wrong with me.SMH. Gone!

P.S. F*ck the typos

A**hole Publications

I didn't write this I just wholeheartedly agree with what is being said. Check it out. (without pictures or captions sorry.) props to the author

If he's black, he must rap

R. Kelly. Bobby Brown. Ray J. Estelle. Sisqo. Russell Simmons. Shaggy. Damon Dash. M.I.A. Santigold. Kelis. T-Pain. Akon. All of these people have two things in common: 1) At one point, they were referred to by the New York Post as "rappers," and 2) None of them are. You see how some of these might confuse people: how the sing-songy styles of M.I.A. and Akon could be mistaken as rapping for the uninitiated and hard-of-hearing, old white people who write the Post. T-Pain is a "rappa ternt sanga," so that explains that. Bobby Brown has rapped (I mean, has a couplet finer than "Too hot to handle, too cold to hold / They called the Ghostbusters in they're in control" since been spat?), Kelis, R. Kelly and Santigold have kind of, as well, I guess. Russell and Damon have worked around rap, so I guess they're rappers by association?

The fact of the matter is that even if the case can be made that a few of these people could possibly write "rapper" on their resume, a more accurate title could be applied to any of them. (Someone like Kid Rock apparently is one of the few of the multi-hyphenate elite. Guess why!) I do not know for sure why they are called "rappers," but I can make a few guesses. The Post still fetishizes rappers as the bad boys of the entertainment industry. The vast majority of its hip-hop coverage -- I'd say just from the informal survey that I took to find the above examples of faulty labeling, 80 percent of it involves the rappers involved in some sort of crime. As silly as it is, the word "rapper," still has sensationalistic value at the Post that "R&B star" or "dancehall artist" or "mogul," just doesn't. (Shit, they called Barbie a rapper, even though she was actually, Rappin' and Rockin'.) Also, these people who have no idea what they're talking about regarding pop culture, may hear about a (usually male) black recording artist and just assume that he is a rapper. I'm not saying that these people are racist (although, if they work for the Post, I'm not saying they're not racist, either), but I am saying they're lazy, ignorant and prone to stereotyping. That's all!

The reason that I bring this up is that in Tuesday's paper there was an item labeling Ne-Yo a rapper, which is the most egregious error of this sort yet. I think I've rapped more than Ne-Yo has. He's a fucking crooner, you know? A singing, songwriting crooner. (I discovered through my research that this isn't even the first time the Post has done that.) Seriously, Post, who's next? Stevie Wonder? Miles Davis? Lenny Kravitz is part-black, so he must be part-rapper, too, right? And look, I understand factual errors. I make them often. I understand meaning one thing and typing another. But I don't understand working at a national media outlet and just assuming in the place of fact-checking. That's nonsense.

It's not just the Post that does this, of course. Come, let's laugh at the mistakes of what we can presume are stupid white people:

The L.A. Times is almost as bad as the Post, having referred to Marques Houston, John fucking Legend and Chris Brown as rappers.

At least they know how to retract.

Rolling Stone called Omarion a rapper. So much for music-industry authority.

Fucking Jet called Jodeci a "rap group," once again proving that if you can fit a periodical in your back pocket, you should not trust it. (Sorry, Reader's Digest.)

This one's really, really bad: the New York Times referred to Mary J. Blige as a rapper. Granted, they were talking about the use of "411" as slang, and she does rap on the title track of What's the 411? On virtually every other track on that album and since (except for "Enough Cryin'"), she sings, though. It's just what she's built her career on. No biggie.

Ginuwine "keeps rap Ginuwine" according to the New York Daily News.

Oh, and I've mentioned R. Kelly, but it seems particularly fucked up that a Chicago publication like the Sun-Times would be referring to him as a rapper. Let me guess: house music is a form of country and western? It's not even house music, in fact, it's barn music.

The photo houses are really, really bad, too. WireImage says Mario...

...Keyshia Cole...

...and Lyfe Jennings...

...are all rappers (the Lyfe example is from Life magazine, but since WireImage did the shot, its fair to assume that the frequently erroneous company is responsible for the caption as well). Yeah, that's not a guitar Lyfe plays -- it's a stringed turntable.

Getty, on the other hand, lists Anthony Hamilton...

...Trey Songz...

...and fucking Jamie Foxx...

...as rappers. You wonder if these people have ever heard any popular music ever. Isn't there a nation of young, unemployed, pop-culture savvy graduates who would shit themselves for the opportunity to write even the most basic copy for an organization half as reputable as Getty?

But my favorite, favorite, favorite of all of these examples is this one about Usher:

That's gorgeous, as irony goes. Really, really solid work, everyone. Oh, and since it's from the Newswire, it's basically a press release, so if you need a more reputable journalistic source for Usher's status as a rapper, the Post has it covered, too. Good, old Post!

So basically the point is that just about every single male R&B singer of the past 10 years (and quite a few females) has been labeled a "rapper," by sources that are more or less trusted. When in doubt, though, I think you should use your sense of hearing. It's a much, much better source.

^
^
^
May not mean much to those that are far removed from the world of stereotypes but for me, this is parallel to much of the discrimination I've faced in my life. There's no reason for it, and ignorance like that does nothing to help us advance as a 'society' (hmmm I guess that's why I'm rebelling).

props to http://fourfour.typepad.com/fourfour/2009/11/if-hes-black-he-must-rap.html (you can go there to view the article in its entirety with pictures & captions)

Escobar Season

Very interesting topic here... So why WASN'T Nas on two of the biggest releases of the year? Hear his explanation and think on if you agree or not. I don't, but I'm biased toward hip hop lol just give me good music and I'm good.

Anyway, in all fairness Nas is going through a lot in his personal life right now, so he'll get a pass from me. That's the least I can do for the G.O.A.T.

But Lord help me if this distant relatives lp is garbage. You better hurry up and get that album out and come with a solo 6 months later Esco!

Birthday's Was the Worst Days

What no space cars or shoes to look at? Lol well one of us has been sick, and I'm not sure about the other one. Still sick, manageable now though, so I can kick some doors back down. So much has happened in the last week in this world of music I live in... smh... whatever we're celebrating today!

*sighs*

Rather than get into specifics, let me just say this. Check out Big Boi's new joint For Your Sorrows.

I've been bumpin the 30 second snippet for almost a year now (its that serious!). Off his upcoming solo album Sir Lucious Leftfoot.

Quick Update

I know, I know, you've heard this before. I'm not even playing though! The number of posts per day is really about to jump up CONSIDERABLY. I want people to have access to the posts whenever! I understand what it's like to go without a computer or whatever, which is why my blackberry stays in my right hand lol. So for those that want to be "more connected", shoot me your email and I'll put you on the list. This way posts will be sent directly to your email (phones anyone?).

Lastly, I'm receiving some help from a friend that will make himself/herself known when he/she is ready to. For now, if y0u don't see my tag at the end of the post...

Who Got Next?

"Wayne's scorching I'll applaud him/if he keep goin pass the torch to him" Jay-Z

^
^
Hov said it not me, but it's going to be an interesting 09-10. Think
about it. Less than a year ago wayne had sh*t on lock with Tha Carter
3. He's gearing towards a new release very very soon. I for one
thought the Wayne mania had died down (wrong.), but upon realizing
what he's been doing on the road, I couldn't have been MORE wrong.

Wayne has quietly gone on to earn more than any other artist currently
touring raking in 40 million. So yeah, he's still doing his thing. The
scariest part to all this for me is that this n*gga is playing with
this rap sh*t right now. I think he's experimenting and the time for
that is coming to an end. Meaning hip hop purists (myself), will
finally get what we've been wanting from wayne in the 1st place.

A blend between dedication 1, 2, the Suffix (flows), and Drought 3
(punchlines). Damn that n*gga was a beast! (Pause, pause) So yeah,
enjoy this sh*t. Celebrate this n*gga now, cause like it or not, he
has changed and evolved with the game. Stop hating, for every song you
hear that's wack, (he has plenty d*ckriders be real) he comes with
some timeless sh*t to show that he deserves the baton that's surely
about to be passed to him. Weezy F. Baby! (pause Lol

Confidence vs. Cockiness

^
^
Not what you think really. I'm not interested in what people consider to be confident or cocky, but the actual definitions and dualities of each word.

Definitions according to Webster

Confidence: 1. A feeling or consciousness of one's powers or of reliance on one's circumstances. 2. The quality or state of being certain. 3. A relation of trust or intimacy. 4. A communication made in confidence.

Cocky(iness): 1. Boldy, or brashly seft confident. 2. JAUNTY.

Quote of The Day

"Denial is one of the toughest hurdles to overcome so many people half steppin thinking they're on the run" Me

^
^
My quote for today coming super late (it was a busy day don't act like I didn't put in work! Lol).

I picked this quote because most everyone I know or associate with at this point in my life have some pretty amazing goals for themselves. I'm not excluded from that group either, but I just wanted to speak on it I guess..

Having goals or plans is great but grounding yourself in reality will go a long way. Be realistic with yourself, if you can't be honest with yourself how much can you really accomplish?

Just something to think about.. Don't get caught up so far in denial that you misplace where you are at in life. Feel me? Its not a bad thing to not be where you want to be, I look at it as motivation in most cases.

Above all though, you have to realize that the only person that can ensure that you get where you want to be is you. At the end of the day, do you want to be stuck because you didn't do everything you could to better your situation?

My people know me, and they know what it is. I just happen to be in a very pivotal time in my life, and what comes of this will rest solely on me. Copy?

*This isn't a do it all yourself post either. Far from it, I think we all need help getting where we want to be, but the drive and will to do the things necessary should and does lie exclusively on you.*

Quote of the Day

Ok so here is part of what I was talking about. I'm gonna have some kind of quote everyday n at the end of the week I'll go back n pick which one I or whoever liked best. These all hold some significance to me, so if they seem random and out of touch there's a reason!

"... And these chicks. You know, they want what we want," Lil Guy

^
^
Don't know if I want to explain all of these that I'll be posting but this particular one stood out to me for a couple of different reasons.

The 1st being who the quote came from. Lil Guy isn't his name, but it IS my lil homie who's about 3 years younger than me. The moment he said it I thought about how time changes things. This lil n*gga was just a little squeaky voiced kid a day ago it seems like, and now he's tryin to school me on life, and girls . Crazy.

2ndly I thought it was an interesting statement because to me its true. Lol people in general are just grimey as hell. Take that however you want though.

So all that for that little random quote, I know, but that's what some of you wanted anyway right? Lol whatever though like it or love it. Same applies for this too. If you want to send me something go ahead rebel2society@gmail.com.Gone! (Lol stupid..)

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

I'm really trying to update this somewhere around 4 to 5 times a day. Which sounds like a lot, but each post will be its own individual little category.. I guess it'll make more sense once I get into it.

"Since I know what I'm up against.." Let me chill.. Apparently there are people out there who actually want to get a little deeper into my head so I'm going to help them as best I can. Not by getting more personal, cause I've learned I NEED my privacy to a certain extent.

Instead, I'm going to try my best to articulate my thoughts better. At the end of the day, this sh*t is for me anyway, but I never realized people were genuinely interested so I'll try to cater in my own little way. As long as the feedback keeps coming the blogs will come on the regular. If not I'm still gonna do me, just at my own pace lol.

If there is something interesting you think I might wanna see please send it to me! Rebel2society@gmail.com (dead a** lol)

Substance

Everything can't be hip hop videos and interviews can it? I got this like 2 weeks ago it was so ill I HAD to perform it lol. Michelle did her thing with it Respect due!

Moonshine Cries (working title) by Michelle Hill. Edited & Performed by Chris Wilson.

Feeling damaged with a total view.
With everything changing
today is just see through.  Knowing that all else fails me
with no back up plan I'm bout to sail.  Though I'm still not going anywhere..  Concealed,

away in my thoughts.
Eyes open but still trying not to see
how everything rots away.
Like it was never there please,
just take a moment and spare me!
As I let myself fall into less,
I'm not really trying to be..

The best even at my own detest, I'm still gaining experience at being depressed.  lower than the rest.
And finding no reason to be but I still don't know how to suppress,  how to change up.

My angle of view and undo all I've put myself through... True, there's so much that has went my way.
But it never seems to stay...

Always back to square one like I'm playing in a game.  Never a permanent change still feeling surrounded with the same old same old.

All anyone truly knows is my name, thinking they've figured me out!

But it's only who I play. But all this pretending is whats keeping me sane...

its like my own disdain hiding myself from my own shame; changing up who I place on blame, just to subside the pain.  Is this really all from my own mistakes?

It truly makes my heart ache.

Knowing that its not so easy to fake. Put on and save face for some one who cant begin to understand...

why their daddy just cant step up and be a man!  Or simply just a friend but then again, for THEM, it all goes hand in hand.

It WILL in turn make me take a step back and demand only 100%.

Nothing else is done with out my consent.  Not giving him any chance to get me bent... spent, no longer waiting on him to try and make sense!
Making our lives maybe a lil less tense...

Oooo too ill! I can't wait to make a part 2!! Gone!

I'm looking forward to Their Album

"You Judists thought I was gone so in light of my steps.."

It's super early, like 5 or something and I was up thinking and on facebook (wtf? shout out to Alex). So you already know I bored. I saw that Slaughterhouse had their new video on Nahright.com earlier today but never peeped it. Let me just say, this is probably my 2nd most anticipated album getting ready to drop right now. These dudes are beyond ill, and together they make some really good music (come on now peep Joey and Joel on the back and forth for the last verse in this joint.. Crazy!). Although I was expecting to get straight gutter bars from all of them, this song (their first single off their self titled debut album)was a welcome change of pace. Check it out..

Trying Not to Go THERE..

I don't want to take that turn ya'll, (for the worst) but this is one of those rare occasions where I can feel myself slipping minute by minute. The problem... Well it's not fair to simply state one problem because there are several. The point being I'm thinking at an insane rate right now. I'm not trying to come off as some no-it-all kid, I'm just saying I have A LOT of surreal thoughts running through my mind right now. Most of which is followed by very real doubt. I'm probably not making any sense..

^
^
^
^
^
The whole vibe of this song is describing me right now. Let me just say this, if you are in my life be you, be real about being you, and cover your tracks if your on that kind of tip. There are so many things that pop up in front of me (red flags) that I don't even acknowledge. It's not really me not acknowledging it, that was wrong.. I just push it to the back of my mind, which explains the nightmares. I have these voices of reason speaking to me in my head, and I'm trying to NOT even empower them by listening, but tonight they're on some superman sh*t.

I hate feeling like this. Everyone's not always out to get you, or do you wrong. Still there are those times when you should take a closer look then what you previously were. Sh*t's disturbing. I hope I'm wrong and the voices cease with their poison.

^
*unrelated*

part 2 of the previous entry coming..

I'm almost finished getting through everybody's blogs which was an experience in itself. Keep doing what your doing ya'll (to the bloggers). I gotta find a way to get my mind right.. Gone

Ace Hood, Curren$y, & Kid Cudi

Wale, B.o.B aka Bobby Ray, Asher Roth, & Charles Hamilton

So I'm really trying to catch up. I know it's been a minute since xxl debuted their freshman class of 2009 (notice anyone missing?), but I honestly haven't sat down and actually listened to all of them. I will say this though, those I have listened to offered something refreshing with their music. that's not to say I liked it but at least most of them are trying to pave their own way, without falling under the typical industry trends.

*Quick(yeah right)overview*

Ace Hood - Never really listened to dude unless his video was on tv. From what I heard, dude CAN rap (alil lol). Honestly, I try to stay as far a way from that "WE THE BEST!" guy as I can, but I'm going to give him a try (pause).

Curren$y - How many "diehard" Lil Wayne fans remember Curren$y? If I'm not mistaken he was on Tha Carter II right? Anyway Curren$y is nice on the mic. My only gripe with dude is his content. Weed, Shoes, Girls, repeat. I've heard his mixtapes, and his under the radar album he released and I didn't think it was bad at all. The test is going to be when I go back and listen though.(which I'm currently doing with all of these artist for part 2 of this post)

Kid Cudi - Day N Nite! lmao I bumped the hell out that song. Let's be honest though, how well can Cudi really sing? Ok, now how well can he actually rap? Probably my biggest disappointment out of this whole group. Not because of his lack of skill (to me), but because of the hype that came with it. Kanye co-sign? Check. Which almost ensures that whatever he sings/raps on will be whip worthy, but I'm real with this. If you can't sing or rap that well, I'm going to notice, and Cudi needs to step it up. With all that said, he does know how to make good songs so no disrespect intended. Just my opinion.

Cory Gunz - This kid can spit! no doubt about it. I'm wondering what the hold up has been with his career as far as him gaining recognition on a major scale. For those that don't know this is the son of legend (Peter Gunz most notable song Deja vu (uptown baby) and Shaq is his Godfather ). Cory Gunz isn't new to this rap sh*t though, he's been ripping 16's and freestyle's for years now. My guess, is some kind of label trouble whatever though it hasn't stopped him from putting out music. (New track every Tuesday on Nahright.com "Tuesdays with Cory") Want proof? here..

Was SUPPOSED to be on tha Carter III.. So what's my issue with Cory Gunz? It's the opposite of Cudi. You can rap, now make a SONG! lol no shots though. His upcoming Gangsta Grillz with DJ drama (Heir to The Throne) is one of the most anticipated projects of the year (on my list).

Blu - Cali stand up! What can I say about this dude he really is the complete package. A throwback lyrcist, that can paint a picture with the best of them. He's released a number of critically acclaimed projects most notably his collaboration with producer Exile Below The Heavens. I appreciate Blu because for awhile if it was Westcoast hip hop, it was going dumb on cars and gangster rap. Most people I listen to out here are much more cerebral, and thought provoking. So its nice to see that actually get some recognition.

Mickey Factz - Do I get a pass when I say I haven't heard dude spit? Well that's not entirely true, I've seen him in some online freestyles but that's about it. He never came off as someone that couldn't rap though, so my interest in hearing more is definitely there. Can anyone help me out and give me some mixtapes of his to listen to?

Wale - I first heard of Wale via a growing buzz on the internet. Ok, that's how damn near all these guys were discovered. The catch? He was promoting his upcoming mixtape (the mixtape about nothing). A Seinfeld themed mixtape that actually featured my girl Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine.. peep the earlier entries lol). Seinfeld being one of my favorite shows of all time, instantly made me interested in this project. Wale didn't disappoint at all. It was pretty much fire all the way through.. Fast forward to today with a new mixtape (Back to the Feature)and singles picking up momentum (Chillin ft. Lady Gaga) Wale is doing what he's supposed to be doing. My problem with him is this, he dropped the mixtape about nothing. Great! That doesn't mean become the rapper about nothing lol.. I am probably going to be listening extra close now to make sure that claim isn't untrue, but whatever, he's good. Definitely interested to see how things pan out for him.

B.o.B aka Bobby Ray - I wasn't sure with Cudi, or Drake (the one NOT recognized in xxl freshman class of 2009. Ouch.. for them I mean lol). However, after seeing this guy's "transformation" from rapper to "guy who finds melodies comes to him more easily than rapping" I knew what was up. These labels are pretty smart. Signing bad singers and marketing them as rappers is a great idea! Cross marketability lol.. Let me chill, I never really got too much into dudes music. You can hear Andre 3000's influence in B.o.B's flow, yet he still sounds original. He CAN rap, I don't know about his singing though. His music is infused with that Atl bounce, which makes it all the more interesting when he finds ways to branch out from that box. I'm not sure if I like him or not, so I'm going to keep listening until I find out. Backed by T.I. and his Grand Hustle label B.o.B has released quality mixtapes (who the F*ck is B.o.B, and B.o.B vs Bobby Ray) <<-- Wonder where I've heard that concept before lol.

Asher Roth - I respect Asher's passion for music. Actually most of these artist have displayed a passion for their craft that has propelled them forward with their music. Asher for obvious reasons has had to defend that passion as if his life (career) depended on it. The sad part is it probably did lol. Anyway Asher Roth or Eminem 2.0? I'll be the first to admit that the kid sounds a lot like Marshal, a young Marshal at least. That shouldn't stop people from actually LISTENING to him. Everything leading up to his debut album (asleep in the bread aisle) was pretty much good. I watched him actually freestyle (no Drake) and hold his own in countless cyphers, despite the hate he would get for being a fake Eminem. It wasn't until his album dropped that I had a problem with him. Even saying problem might be taking it too far. He has room for improvement, but he has my ear (kind of), so I'm going to be checking for him. Hopefully he gets another shot, and comes with a better album in the future. Oh, and upon the release of Eminem's Relapse I learned there's no way he and Eminem should be in the same sentence. That's not a diss towards Asher, just saying there's only a few people that can f*ck with Em period.

Charles Hamilton - What to say, what to say. It's already been stated that he is my favorite rapper of today. So let me try to explain why. If we take every artist on this list and compare there sounds, you won't find one that comes close to Charles' unique sound. Rapping? Yeah dude can definitely spit. Freestyle or written and it's going to be lyrical every time. That's not to say it isn't going to be weird, but come on somebody loves weird out there (or did Lil Wayne not get 'A Milli' in a week?). I've always been a fan of talent and passion. Charles is seemingly endless in both those categories. What makes him my favorite today, may have more to do with the current climate of music then anything else (turn the radio on, every song has autotune in it.. WTF?). What I DO know, is his music sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. He samples.. A lot. Almost every song you hear him on is produced by him, and has a rare or extremely creative sample. Chopped up and looped, backed by an assortment of instruments (which he plays himself too)giving validity to his claims of being a musician not a rapper. Gripes? His singing probably will hurt your ears, I'm not a big fan of it, but when I respect where someone is coming from as an artist, I can deal with it(Kanye, Lil Wayne are great recent examples). Also if he would focus on music and hold his tongue every once in awhile, things might be very different for him today. Maybe he'll learn to do that in the future, but as far as music is concerned keep doing you. He's released probably the most music out of all these guys on the list (around 11 mixtapes in the last 6 or 7 months), and has an album on the way ("This Perfect Life")
